Memories of Halloween Past

Halloween is only two short weeks away and anyone who knows me can tell you that this is my favorite time of the year.  I love it more than Christmas.

Every year, I get so excited to to dig out my decorations to hang them inside and out and figuring out what costume to wear for the kids when they come knocking for treats.

Halloween over the past few years have been so much fun and just a few days ago I found myself looking through old Facebook pictures of the costumes we wore and the decorations that we put up.  I just wish I was more organized and able to find the countless other pictures that were taken over the years.

Here are some of the pictures that I was able to download and share for now.

2007

We used to have a lot of fun dressing up as a family and going to costume parties at friend’s homes.

But the real fun was in the decorating.  The amount of black garbage bags that I cut up to turn the porch and hallway into something fun for the kids was sometimes shocking.

2008

More fun with old friends.

2009

It took me weeks to make our caveman/woman costumes.   I’m no seamstress but I did my best and I was very proud of how they turned out.

2010

Unfortunately, 2010 didn’t make it to the list.  I just got out of the hospital that morning from having major surgery so dressing up and decorating wasn’t in the cards for that year.

2011

Outside and inside decorations.

Pumpkin carving was always a fun way for us to spend an evening.  Then we’d turn off all the lights and enjoy each other’s work.

In between kids coming to the door that year, my son had fun playing with my scarf and some eyeballs that were lying around.

2012

2013

2014

It appears I didn’t make time to worry about a costume for myself in 2014.

2015

This skeleton is my favorite decoration so I love it when my husband gets creative with him for our outdoor decorations.

If he’s not propped in front of a tree, he’s on a bike.

Or having a drink with me after a long day at work.

2016

My son and I waiting for trick or treaters.  Jester and plague doctor.

Hubby did another great job decorating

2017

I had a new puppy in 2017 and from day 1 I started training him to wear anything I put on him so last year I dressed him up as a Ghostbuster.  I can’t even tell you how many kids LOVED seeing him come to the door dressed up.  I lost count of the number of “AWWWWW’s” he got from the kids that night.  I didn’t get a chance to dress myself up, but Charlie’s costume made up for that.

2018

This year I have 2 dogs to put costumes on.  I didn’t really want to spend too much money on them so I hit the clearance rack at PetSmart and found 2 jack-o-lantern costumes for them.   My dogs already get so much attention when I take them out for walks so the kids are just going to love seeing them in their jack-o-lantern costumes.

As for my costume, I have yet to figure it out.  Some thoughts I have so far are:

  1. Jack-o-lantern to match the dog’s costumes
  2. Scarecrow
  3. A mummy
  4. A witch
  5. Every year I want to do Medusa but don’t know how to pull off the snakey hair.  I will figure that out one day!
  6. Tickle trunk it and pull out a costume from the collection of what we have used in the past.

Suggestions welcome 🙂
